‘Unstoppable’ Trailer: Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Lopez & More Star In An Underdog Sports Drama

The 27-year-old actor made his debut in Barry Jenkins‘ drama film “Moonlight” (2016), and his career has been on an upward trajectory ever since. Following that performance, he appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries “When They See Us” (2019) and Boots Riley’s limited series “I’m a Virgo” (2023).  The rising star’s next role is “Unstoppable,” an underdog sports drama that had its world premiere at the recent Toronto International Film Festival in September (read our review).

“Unstoppable” centers on a young wrestler who was born with one leg and won a national championship in 2011 while competing at Arizona State University.

Produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artist Equity production company, the film has a solid supporting cast that also features Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Don Cheadle, and Jennifer Lopez.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Anthony Robles, despite being born without a right leg and growing up in an abusive household, rises to become a NCAA Division 1 Champion wrestler, ultimately winning a national championship against the school that rejected him, national powerhouse Iowa. (Based on the book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion, by Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy.)

Written by Eric Champnella, Alex Harris, and John Hindman (based on “Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion”), “Unstoppable” is directed by William Goldenberg, an acclaimed film editor who won an Oscar for Affleck’s “Argo,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Air” among others. “Unstoppable” is his directorial debut.

Amazon MGM Studios will release the film in limited theatrical release starting on December 6, 2024. Watch the first trailer below.
