Marvel has a couple of hurdles to overcome with "Ant-Man." There’s the ever present shadow of Edgar Wright and what-could-have-been looming over the movie, and there’s convincing mainstream audiences that the character and movie is just as exciting as anything "The Avengers" have served up. And there’s making a movie that’s on-par or better than the source material, which the film’s co-star Evangeline Lilly says she wasn’t impressed with.
"I am still trying to figure out how to get my hands on original ‘Ant-Man’ comics. I’ve been given a couple recent ‘Ant-Man’ comics. No offense Marvel, but they are total crap," she told Collider. "I really want to read the original ones, because I got through two and I was like, dude, you can’t force-feed me another one of these magazines. It was terrible. But Janet’s not in them, and neither is Hank and neither is Scott. It’s just a completely different fabrication."

Essentially, "Ant-Man" has a big job to do, not only by entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but by re-energizing excitement for the character that’s perhaps not there on the page. And last night, select press got to see the movie early, and the reaction? Well, it’s either awesome, just good, or not good at all. But it seems everyone agrees the two mid-credits scenes are worth sticking around for.
"Ant-Man" arrives on July 17th. Check out the twitter reactions below (via ComicBookMovie), some new promo material and images.
It takes ANT-MAN a moment to get cranked up, but once it does, it’s sensational. My favorite third-act of any Marvel movie.

Two Ant-Man credits scenes, each better than the last.

Ant-Man is more methodical than most Marvel movies but it’s hilarious & a totally great ride. So many fun MCU links too. Another winner.

Ant-Man isn’t just great entertainment, it’s also a great movie. Marvel’s most human film to date. Fantastic.

Ant-Man ties into the MCU without using any tangents. Almost all buildup, but that’s a part of the fun with heist films. Great script.

Sadly ‘Ant-Man’ falls flat in almost every way. Doesn’t seem like it’s sure of what it wants to be. Not so much bad as it is blah.

ANT-MAN is fantastic fun with heart, wildly clever set-pieces, and a scene-stealing Michael Pena. It’s a movie I want to be friends with.

ANT-MAN is good. Not a disaster like some expected but also not a homerun. Has a *must see* after the end credits scene.

Ant Man is great. Way better than Age of Ultron. @edgarwright deserves co-director credit. Feels like his movie.

#AntMan: Mostly boring with lots of exposition, daddy issues and a splash of wit. Oh! And Paul Rudd’s abs. #FemaleGaze

Guys, don’t worry. #AntMan is good. Like, goooooood. Also, it’s the weirdest Marvel movie yet. Weirder than "Guardians of the Galaxy" even.

ANT-MAN is a TON of fun! It’s Marvel’s version of Ocean’s 11. Great cast, slick score and two wonderful post-credits scenes #StayTillTheEnd

Recent Marvel credit scenes have been kind of minor, but ANT-MAN has two (mid-credits and at the very end) that, unlike its hero, are huge.
