Got a Tip?

James Wan’s Comic ‘Malignant Man’ Is Headed To The Big Screen

If you can find it in a comic book store, chances are it has crossed the desk of an executive in Hollywood. The industry continues to gobble up comic books and graphic novels for big screen adaptations, and as the sun rises and sets, yet another property is getting the multiplex treatment.

Having already conquered horror with franchises like “Saw,” “Insidious” and “The Conjuring,” James Wan took his creative mind to Boom! Studios where he delivered “Malignant Man,” and now Brad Peyton (“San Andreas,” “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island“) has been tapped to direct as it transitions to the movies. Wan will also produce this tale about a man whose tumor is actually an alien parasite that gives him powers. And as far as origin stories go, that’s okay I guess. Here’s the synopsis for the first comic:

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis, is resigned to his fate…until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite! Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past.

Zak Olkewicz, who is co-producing the upcoming horror flick “Lights Out” with Wan, penned the script for “Malignant Man.” The project is set up over at Fox, and we’ll let you take to the comments section to start casting the lead. [THR]
