These (mostly Superhero) franchise pictures are turning into a Vietnam for a whole generation of promising film directors. It's nothing more than a career meatgrinder that takes a young, interesting voice and, a decade and multiple back to back sequels later, spits out a withered prostitute with an exceptional bank balance but without a single picture of note on their resume.

JJ Abrams, Zack Snyder, Marc Webb, Matt Reeves: one wonders about the pictures that might have been if they'd just had the courage to do only one tentpole extravaganza and then move on with their careers.

I'm beginning to think that the team of Berlanti/Guggenheim just dropped the ball on Green Lantern as a fluke or something since Arrow has gradually shaped into something that doesn't suck. With any luck they'll see similar success with their Flash series (assuming numbers for the pilot merit a full series) and eventually at some point we'll get the film treatments for the exploits of Barry Allen and Olliver Queen regardless of whether such films come after the Justice League film or not.
