I am in the same boat as both Armando and Oogle. It is truly a magnificent film. But the reason it was so underrated was due sheerly to the brilliance of its ending, flipping the redemptive arch on its head (I\'m referring to the scene between Mavis and Sandra). The fact that the writing and directing dangled the carrot in front of the audience like it did was incredible. The audience thinks we\'re going to get this monumental redemptive moment with a line as blatant as "I need to change." We\'ve seen it a million times in film before and it\'s gratifying to an audience each and every time. It was even done in Reitman\'s previous film "Up in the Air." And then to flip the scene like it did with Mavis not only not changing but reassuring herself she is happy the way she is was just too unsettling for some viewers. And then of course the condescending last line "You\'re good here" left people with a bad taste in their mouths. However, it is a much truer ending to real life and how people\'s personalities don\'t change.

You\'ve read my mind OOGLE MOSNTER. I\'m a "Young Adult" die hard fan ever since it was released. I couldn\'t agree more with you. It\'s first and only Reitman\'s masterpiece and one of Theron\'s finest performances. Why was this film underrated? we\'ll never know but we can guess......that "batshit crazy" is only compared to the fact that "Shame" and Michael Fassbender were also overlooked by Academy members.....

As the resident Young Adult ride-or-die fan around here, I would not only say it\'s Reitman\'s last good film but his first and only masterpiece (which in itself is great because not every director can come up with half a masterpiece let alone an entire one). Young Adult is great. And it was sorely underrated when it came out and it remains one of the more underrated films in recent film history. The fact that Glenn Close was nominated for Albert Friggin\' Nobbs and Charlize went completely empty handed that year is batshit crazy on a level that I myself cannot even articulate.

Also, this collaboration is very good news.
