Art does not, and should not be political! Do you think Van Gogh was thinking about the current political climate in France at the time when he painted his beautiful masterpieces in Arles before he died? Or maybe Mozart as he was hearing the Kyrie in his head? Or possibly Hitchcock when he was shooting Vertigo? Art should be about people, without a political agenda, regardless of race or gender or any other zeitgeist issue that seems current. If those issues are part of the story, then fine, but so many best picture winners that have won in the last 30 years have been largely forgotten. Ordinary People over Raging Bull! Terms of Endearment over The Right Stuff. And recently Spotlight over The Revenant and Moonlight over La La Land. Ha. What a joke. The `Academy needs to wise the fuck up!

Your constant commentary on this is bloated and counter productive. We need to be having a discussion whereby we're saying a film doesn't have to be political. It can simply be about anything. As long as it's good! And Wonder Woman as best picture or best actress? Please. The film was a piece of shit. Come on guys! I'm hearing rumours that however current 'The Post' seems to be, it's also looking in bad shape and needs heavily recutting. The only films that look even remotely worthy this year are 'Last Flag Flying', 'The Florida project', 'Call me by your name' and of course 'Phantom Thread' (come on Anderson!!!) More films like this please.

I would agree with you if WW was the lone bastion of female-fronted movies in the conversation this year. Then it would definitely get a nom as the token "girl power" movie. But the voters have so many more — and so many better — female-fronted films to choose from this year: Three Billboards, Shape Of Water, Lady Bird, I Tonya, The Florida Project, The Post, Molly's Game, Battle Of The Sexes. Academy members aren't exactly starved for choice this year, so there's no way they will stoop so low as to nominate a mediocre superhero movie for Best Picture.

Remember when Idris Elba was basically the lone representative of non-white actors in the conversation a couple of years ago? And yet the voters still decided they'd rather not nominate him for Beasts Of No Nation and face the inevitable #OscarsSoWhite backlash than acknowledge that Netflix was a viable movie studio. There's no way they're reversing decades of genre bias for WW, either, especially when they don't have to.

I can almost gaurentee Wonder Woman will get a Best Picture nod, which I also personally find ridiculous. It was a fun, mediocre superhero flick with a script that was almost a scene-for-scene remake/rehash of Captain America and Thor, but everyone made it out to be So Much More Important than it actually was.

Now, with the Weinstein scandal, every Oscar voter out there will want to show their support for strong women in the industry, hence why WW and maybe Patty Jenkins (hell, maybe even Gal Gadot) will get nominations. Movie doesn't deserve it, but it's a weak year and Oscar voters loooove sending a message, so yeah...it'll happen.
