To me, this is some of the most exciting news in a while. Aronofsky's involvement and the story for this one insure a much different movie than the first (which I didn't see, admittedly).
he must be interested in the story at hand to take it on, (as well as the paycheck, sure) and there is no telling what possibilities will be open to the director after making this film. Remember how much trouble he has had getting films made in the past? (Fountain, Wrestler, etc).
I like to believe there is a lot of the "one for them, one for me" mentality going on in his decision to make this film. Stanley Kubrick directed Spartacus and gained the freedom to make films on his own terms for the rest of his life.
Good things will come from this. We will most likely get an above average, intelligently made super hero movie, and Aronofsky will most likely have much more freedom in choosing his next project(s),
whatever it or they may be.
