‘Wolfs’ Trailer: Brad Pitt & George Clooney Star As Illiterate Fixers For Director Jon Watts In September

Director Jon Watts is showing off his versatility and arguably getting back to his filmmaking roots. While Watts is known for directing three “Spider-Man” movies for Marvel, the filmmaker started out in the world of thriller and indies and got his breakout start with 2015’s “Cop Car,” which found much acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival that year. The buzz on the indie landed Watts the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” gig, which occupied him for several years, but he’s returning to the land of dramatic thrillers with the new starry field, “Wolfs.”

Why the title “Wolfs” instead of the grammatically correct “Wolves”? Well, the entire premise of the film basically spells that out. Starring a pair of actors you might know named Brad Pitt and George Clooney, “Wolf” centers on a pair of illiterate professional fixers who find themselves hired for the same job.

Co-starring Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan, “Wolfs”  was produced by Apple. Following their partnership on “Napoleon,” Apple entered another agreement with Sony Pictures Releasing to distribute the film in theaters later this year in the fall.

Here’s the official “Wolfs” synopsis:

Global superstars George Clooney and Brad Pitt team up for the action comedy Wolfs. Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected.

A new teaser for the film arrived yesterday, revealing what looks like might be something of an absurdist comedy more than drama, but not a lot about the movie has been known until now. Clearly, Pitt and Clooney, who spent a lot of time together on the “Ocean’s” movies by Steven Soderbergh, know a little something about quirky and deadpan humor. It’s their first onscreen collaboration since the Coen Brothers’ “Burn After Reading” in 2008, just one year after “Ocean’s 13” in 2007. If anything, the film looks like it’s about two men, forced to work with each other, who are getting on each other’s last nerve. Perhaps the illiterate nature of the two men will yield much further comedy.

“Wolfs” is due in theaters via Sony Pictures on September 20, 2024. Watch the first full trailer below.
