If you have a track record of producing expensive box-office bombs that have generally not been positively received then you’re not going to get much support for future projects.
He thinks he’s an artist because he works outside the Hollywood studio system and his films don’t make any money. Is it cruel to suggest that his movies are critically dismissed and bomb at the box office because they suck really hard? Gilliam’s films are like a game of Russian Roulette, the experience is always agony, but you’ll eventually hit one that’s mind-blowingly awful.

We have no way of knowing whether \"Dr. Parnassus\" would have been a better or worse movie had Heath Ledger lived. Personally, I can\'t imagine it having been better. It was a magnificent film - hilarious and fantastical, vulgar and absurd. It unmistakably Gilliam and in nearly every respect, it was Gilliam at his best. It only adds to the wonder that Gilliam recovered both himself and the story from the tragedy of Ledger\'s death.
