the second season of The Wire was eventually critically acclaimed. as the first couple of episodes aired, everyone was up in arms about the story and the near/perceived abandonment of the towers/bell/barksdale storyline. reviewers caught one as the season progressed and NOW it\’s critically acclaimed. i remember vividly people saying it was "too white" and "boring" back in the web 2.0 days.

Why is it "oddly enough" that the men\’s magazines like it most. True Detective is the most self-consciously masculine-focused show I\’ve ever seen on television.

kinda like how The Wire\’s second season received mixed if not downright vitriolic reviews and is now considered among its best. not to say True Detective\’s second season will be up there in quality. i think that lightning in a bottle a reviewer speaks of had a name. begins with fuk u.

Variety critic taking a dig at Mann…shocker. Slighting Mann seems to be every critic\’s dick move. Anyways, these reviews aren\’t exactly mixed. If the title was click bait, mission accomplished. I\’ll be watching.

A legitimate effort to recapture the magic of the first season would have involved using a carefully selected, visionary single director to execute the full season, as they did with season 1. Personally, I would love to see what a Jonathan Glazer or Matt Reeves could do with something like this.

HBO should have viewed the director as a promotional casting asset in the same way they played out the actor casting in the press.

A missed opportunity.

Television shows should be reviewed based on more 3 episodes. Review one episode at a time, then review the season as a whole.
