In reply to J.D.. It may say he wrote it but it doesn\'t confirm it. Read the Written By article. Pakula and Redford probably spent a lot of time talking about different ways to do scenes but in the end realized they couldn\'t do better than Goldman. People like them, a star and a director, always think that secretly they\'re great writers too. They are not.

Alan J. Pakula biography that came out years ago confirms that he and Redford extensively rewrote Goldman\’s script.
