People only have so much money to spend per year. People cannot honestly expect a market to have no ceiling. And with film, its a ceiling that fluctuates.

A quick search shows that, generally, the film market in terms of dollars has actually been pretty stable. And if this is the largest drop in two decades (taking into account that not every year has seen a drop), this isn\’t *that* shocking. It is simply that the movies released this year did not bring in audience money as previous years.

No one can expect their slate of movies to match the previous year. We want that, yes, but to expect and salivate over it…. "You\’re doing it wrong".

Because my friend group dominates my time, if we don\’t all want to see something I usually end up waiting for it to hit discount theaters or to make it to Redbox.

I also agree with the comments about making original films. I enjoy superhero movies, but I\’m overwhelmed by the incessantly increasing Marvel Universe. I\’d love to see more independent films shown in more places.

Hollywood needs to take big risks again, and stop relying on franchises in order to make their money. In a number of years time, these franchise will have ran their course and the studios will be left with nothing to promote come summer season. Theatre owners need to reduce their ticket prices and try out some special offers in order to entice more people back into theatres. Either that or the film industry suffers slowly.
