To the previous comments above, he\'s talking about they\'re clogging the machine and that\'s all people are talking about. It gets annoyingly boring to deal with teasers, photos, glimpses, trailers, comic con coverage, debate over the liberties taken with comic book characters, new comic book characters movies, old comic book reboots, debate over the racial identity of the person being cast, debate over female comic book characters, the DC vs Marvel fight between fanboys and the seemingly endless superhero schedule which is not to cater to geeks but because Hollywood finally realized that they make money and have proceeded to make so many of them because they sell well. Sigh....see my point?

Not sure why some people are getting so flustered in the comments. The writer made it pretty clear that he doesn\'t think superhero movies are evil or anything, just that they\'re maybe a little exhausting. "geek-shaming" has nothing to do with it.

"Those who don\'t like superhero movies should avoid them." And watch what? All the money goes into them.
Look at all the shitty action movies from the 80s. As a part of the action/sci-fi/fantasy genre of films, superhero films are not too bad compared to what came before. They follow a formula because pop entertainment always follows a formula. People will not get tired of superhero films until something better comes along.

mainstream culture has become absurdly infantile in recent years. Is all this superhero business some reaction to the real-world terror paraded in front of us on the news all day and night? women are shaving their vaginas and men are crying at star wars trailers... are we all retreating into childhood because real-world paranoia and atrocities are too much to bear?

This article is part of the superhero film hate fatigue. I like the previous comment. Those who don\'t like superhero movies should avoid them.
There are actually fewer superhero films than there are rom-coms, period dramas, etc. That\'s the great aspect of
cinema, there\'s something out there for everyone.

Get over it. Sometimes (always?) there is an abundance of rom-coms. And WWII movies. And sports films. And Oscar bait period dramas. And so on and so forth. If you don\'t want to see a Marvel movie, stay the hell home and stop whining, like I do with every Hugh Grant, Adam Sandler, etc, etc, film. This is all about "geek-shaming", making it seem like it\'s a bad thing that geeks now have an equal voice in entertainment. Just like you think you only need a handful of sci-fi/superhero movies to get the point, I likewise really only need a handful of profound heart-wrenching visually masterful original dramas to realize that life is a shit sandwich topped with extra diarrhea. And people get through it by having fun at the movies on days when they aren\'t in the mood for Malick.

"coverage, particularly online, is skewed towards these movies. Obviously that’s triply true during Comic-Con, but it stretches to the rest of the year, with a constant stream of set photos, rumors, conjecture, actual news, official photos, trailers, clips and interviews feeding the beast."

This isn\'t meant as an attack (I enjoy rumor mills on big movies, from time to time), but this site definitely helps feed this endless promotional machine-cum-echo-chamber of hype. In recent years, especially, The Playlist has been focusing on trade news about superheroes almost incessantly (no doubt because it generates clicks). Again, this is not necessarily a horrible thing, but it\'s worth noting that this site very much reinforces the feelings of "fatigue" that you mention in this article.
