-or creepy locations like Session 9
-a buildup of dread like in The Exorcist, Psycho or Jaws again
-long stretches of silence like in Paranormal Activity, the hallway scene in Exorcist 3
-long stretches of darkness like in Don’t Breathe

All of these films have a good story to go along with the scares. It’s not just young people going to a cabin with a killer stalking them. There is also a psychological undercurrent that is integral to the story.
