I loved him in Prison Break and the first 2 seasons of PB were exceptional. the less said about season 3&4 the better. Despite that look at him now, this guy is a major talent!

He has an English Literature degree from Princeton. Acting was probably just a way that he could get his foot in the door to do screenwriter. Good on him.
