The 3rd Matrix, Shrek & POTC were all poorly received by critics and audiences alike and doubtless suffered fr poor WOM.
I'll never get why Miami Vice wasn't received with open arms. I expect audiences to be stupid but critics should have at least been able to see how good a film it is. I honestly think that Mann would be been better off dropping the brand name to remove any lingering association with the show. It would be been interesting to see where Farrell would be now had that and The New World been the successes they deserved to be. I think that his tabloid exploits in the early part of his career continue to linger in the minds of the general film going public.

Let's just be honest and admit that the era of the box office pull leading man is essentially over instead of chewing out actors for not living up to that. With the exception of the lingering older stars like Tom Cruise & Denzel Washington, we really do live in a post-movie star era. Colin Farrell clearly wanted to come back and do something big & fun for once but now he's going to get this misfire placed on his head, as if he had something to do with the studio & filmmaker's completely inefficient use of money. He's one of the best actors out there, but he certainly seems better served in challenging roles & films than he is in studio fare. Maybe he should stick to supporting parts in his studio films like in Horrible Bosses last year. Also, Fright Night wasn't properly marketed for what it was, and putting a horror comedy at the tail end of the August dumping ground was just an idiotic decision. Had it been shown for the satire it was and released in early October it probably would have found more of an audience.

Also, what's the guess for next week? Will Bourne dethrone TDKR? As much as I want to see Renner become a big marquee name, I hope TDKR finishes at the top once again. Make it 6 weeks at the top before any sucker comes between the #1 spot and this film.

Gabe, I don't feel Catwoman was muted in TDKR. Because of Anne Hathaway's wonderful performance, yes, she deserved more of a storyline and screen time ( she stole so many scenes) . But, if you mean muted, by making Catwoman ridiculously unstable, wacko, and over-the-top , the version represented by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. That is not the true representation of Catwoman. Hathaway's Catwoman was more in line with the comic books.

Gabe, we all know how tough and very critical you are, but Colin Farrell is a major talent , and he has movie star charisma ( who sadly continues to make bad film choices). He was excellent in In Bruges, and he deserved the Golden Globe win ( coming from a person who doesn't take this award show or most awards shows seriously). Maybe Colin needs to fire his agent and hook-up with Christian Bale's agent or Ryan Gosling's agent.

Great analysis on TDKR, Gabe. LA Times reported that it will soon break through the 900 mil-1 bill wall. I have seen it 3 times now (once in IMAX) and I will most likely see it again before the end of the month. In Nolan we trust!
