Also, 3D or not it's still selling more tickets than movies it's competing with for records, native & creative use of 3D will always get a bigger percentage of 3D sales than this type of situation, studios know now they have to offer plenty of 2D shows for converted movies. Movies like Prometheus & The Amazing Spider-Man will be ones that get people to actually tell their friends not to skip out on 3D.

Smash and grab awful blockbusters or movies that the entire fanbase turns out immediately crash 70+% in their second weekend, this got all four quadrants coming out & an A+ exit polling CinemaScore from audiences, no one thought it would freefall even with the $200m opening, most people expected it'd flirt with the $100m second weekend. It'll be interesting to see if it's overpredicted as most estimates turn out to be, but Disney's estimate of $200.3 last week was actually $7m lower than it actually turned out.

The conversion was hardly half-hearted, it was good 3D. Do you 3D haters even investigate if it was a theatre issue that left you feeling flat? Too bad TDKR isn't converted, not for the money and possible record, but for the pure enjoyment for those of us that see 3D adding to the fun.

While I am very happy for The Avengers (and more importantly demi-god, Joss Whedon), I still think TDKR will be the highest grossing film of the year. People were straight up gasping in the theater when the preview came on before The Avengers. Here's hoping, anyway.
