The \”official\” claim is that Super 8 marketing cost only $25 million, which seems a tad implausible, but even if it were $40 million, these numbers for Super 8 would be pretty solid.

\”Super 8\” cost a $50 million to make which is low for a summer blockbuster. Having taken in more than half of that with $38 million domestically and $44 million in its opening weekend is a big win for Paramount. It\’s not like this is a new-franchise blockbuster like \”Inception\” with stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and made by \”The Director Of \’The Dark Knight.\’ There are zero stars or marketable figures in this film.

Sure, figure in another $20 million for marketing, but this picture will likely have legs.

When was the last time a film, that prominently broadcasted Spielberg\’s name, didn\’t perform well? Eagle Eye, Both Transformers big hits. Even though it wasn\’t on posters and stuff, I know people who got excited when they saw his name on True Grit too.

Super 8\’s opening is only a small victory so far…likely costing at least 100m with marketing costs… it will need legs

And 37m is not blockbuster numbers for summer.

i enjoyed pirates and not that into garbage… was just fun summer popcorn movie… never saw 3

love that 15 percent drop with bridesmaids… is 150 out of the question?

midnight in paris which is terrific will cross the 20 million mark next week not 30 (typo?)… was very happy with the 6 million expansion… is that it? will they go wider? and paris will probably cross the 30 million mark when it\’s all done being woody\’s highest grossing modern movie ever…

worldwide paris is definitely going to cross the 100 million dollar mark… vcb hit 96 million and this seems to be doing better
