what a bummer about your highness. it was a total pisser, a classic stoner movie. oh well…it\’ll have a long, long shelf life on dvd and blu ray.

I enjoyed \’ Hanna\’, It was very different from the advertising, and it has a strong French New Wave feel to that film. This film reminded me of the 80\’s classic, \’ Diva \’. I was not surprised by some of the walkouts during movie- most American audiences cannot handle very odd, weird, and unusual directing flourishes.

With \’ Your Highness\’ tanking, karma has caught up to James Franco after his arrogance and lack of effort during the Oscars.

\’your highness\’ deserved what it got. everyone involved has a ton of talent and it was just a lazy, lazy unfunny film.

Hop had an easygoing and easy-to-understand premise. Plus relatively perfect timing to coincide with its holiday.

Universal\’s other films so far this year didn\’t have that. The Dilemma had the hard-to-sell theme of infidelity as well as the fact it was a dramedy with its trailers selling pretty much all comedy aspects which weren\’t funny at all. The Adjustment Bureau did decently despite the odd premise. Your Highness was a medieval stoner comedy, a genre mesh that would of course be unappealing to the public eye.

Universal should have hits with Fast Five and Cowboys & Aliens. So long as the genre mesh with C&A is more appealing, which it does look like.

I am happy for Hanna. According to deadline, it is playing well to ethnically diverse.

Saoirse did well it being on her shoulders. Such a talent.

I don\’t think I\’ve seen a Your Highness trailer, every time i see an ad online, I ignore it.

While I think anyone who doesn\’t think \”Your Highness\” rules is a square, I will say this — the film is certainly divisive. At the screening I attended there were a good handful of walkouts while on the other hand, those that stayed enjoyed it immensely.

Universal\’s marketing is absolutely dreadful. I have no idea how Hop managed to become a success with their terrible ad campaign. Lack of kids\’ movies is more responsible for its box office success than the marketing.

I agree carrie. Everytime I\’ve seen the trailer in the cinema, I\’ve heard audience members whisper how bad it looks. It looks like they hired costumes and made it up on the spot.

A few people posited, even this article to an extent, that Danny McBride wasn\’t a huge draw, which partially true, but the film also had Natalie Portman and James Franco, both of whom had the highest visibility in the film world only a month ago at the Oscars (Franco hosting, Portman winning best actress).

I think it was less about audiences rejected the talent and more about audiences not responding to the material and the genre. They\’ll go see Harry Potter, but they don\’t necessarily want Cheech and Chong meets Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

But it\’s hard to pinpoint and or distill why audiences don\’t respond to a film sometimes.

It doesn\’t matter if a film is divisive. That assumes they have seen it. The box office is simply the money made by people who bought tickets which means they hadn\’t seen, whether of not they enjoyed it or walked out. Your Highness tanked simply because the trailers were not funny and it looked stupid. I\’ll admit and can\’t really judge the film cause I haven\’t seen it, but that\’s the point. I didn\’t go see it because it looked dumb…I can only assume so did the rest of the country.
