I do appreciate the clarification; not that you owed it to me or anything but it\’s good to know that a writer of your good taste does appreciate those guys. And full disclosure time: I like Strong so much that I actually did say “Oooh, Mark Strong is in this! I’M SOLD,\” and boy, did I ever feel like an asshole when the movie finally ended.

I say this as a fan of some of his other work, but . . .Peter Sarsgaard was the WORST part of that movie. By far.

They should have used Mark Strong more.

Fred, those two are very strong actors, and in any other project, I would be excited to see them. But this is a big effects blockbuster, and they aren\’t the type of actors to shine too strongly amidst all the BS CGI nonsense (though, in fairness, they are the best parts about the movie).

And as far as the general public, not a single average moviegoer said to themselves, \”Oooh, Mark Strong is in this! I\’M SOLD.\”

Wasn\’t the reason Woody Allen went to Europe for all of his movies because he couldn\’t get funding in America anymore (after \”Small Time Crooks\” was his only semi-hit since the mid-80s)?

You\’d think after scoring three career hits (especially \’Paris\’), he\’d be dealing with American studios again. Maybe he likes this new phase in his career. I\’m certainly not complaining.

Despite the Lantern misstep, Strong is one of the best actors out there. It would seem like he and Sarsgaard had put in too much time in intellectually nutritional art projects over the years to be reduced to a followup punchline to a Gossip Girl riff, but I guess like an amped-up insult comic, when the author\’s rapier wit starts swinging it\’s kind of hard to control.
