Yes, hipsters suck, but Scott Pilgrim was awesome. The first major laugh came with the opening Universal logo.

Hipster hate is a justified thing (lookatthisfuckingnhipster.com). But there's a big difference between hipsters and everyone who grew up with a Nintendo in the house.

All I gotta say is I liked Scott Pilgrim quite a lot. I'm not a hipster, in fact I hate hipsters, but I hate that label more. If anything, Scott Pilgrim isn't FOR hipsters – it makes fun of them. And it's the single funniest and most fun movie I've seen all year. Inception is technically the better film, but damn it, I had 10x more fun at SPvsTW.

The trailer made the movie look incredibly stupid. But then again, the movie is incredibly stupid/silly. Nerds and their nerd movies and their epic nerd-defense when their precious nerd-culture is universally rejected on a massive scale. Deal with it nerds.

I'm fairly young, and I consider myself fairly hip as well. And even I could hear "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" screaming at me: "This movie is wwwaaayyyy to HIP for you, you old, square bastard, you!"

I hate to bring up the "Hipster" angle, but yeah. This movie had a serious "Hipsters ONLY" vibe that was seemed to just push moviegoers away.

The problem was never too many pre-screenings; the total lost income from those totalled, max, $100,000. The problem was preaching-to-the-converted marketing.

That, and to a lesser extent, as Gabe says in the article, a very poorly chosen release date. But it'll probably make its money back in the long run (DVD etc), and no one except Cera really loses face here.

It didn't help that Universal had already shown the film in way too many free advance pre-screenings to generate buzz. I was at a packed screening in North Hollywood a few weeks ago and didn't they have four packed screenings at Comic-Con? The same thing happened to Kick-Ass. The faithful have already seen the film and many won't pay to see it again.

The Expendables was absolute and unadultered crap, one of the worst movies I've laid my eyes up on, at least Scott Pilgrim was midly entertaining and yes, I'm a guy, but I don't need a crappy flick to define me as a male.

I could have used that money to see Inception again... thanks for nothing, pops, keep your abortion of mo... I mean "movies" to yourself.
