Um, so this is what I read. "'Rock Of Ages,' which was advertised to look like it’s entirely set at night, and mostly in dank, dingy bars, promised karaoke versions of songs that were jokes back then". I mean, you ARE kidding right? Obviously, you are not a fan of the era, as pretty well every song heard would be considered a classic by pretty much EVERYONE who likes hard rock music (both then AND now). I will concede that they are being covered by people other than the original artists. Unless I am mistaken, however, that is the very definition of karaoke. Logically, that would cover every single musical that has ever been filmed (or shown on Broadway). As far as being in "dank, dingy bars", I suppose they could have filmed it in light, airy places, but...well, that would have just been weird. Oh, and if you really think that this film was intended to appeal primarily to girls...ok...once again, a really, really, REALLY odd comment (I didn't know too many little girl headbangers back in the 80's). I am fairly certain that this was NOT the intended audience. Actually, I have probably never been more certain of anything else in my entire life (watch the scene between Cruise and Akerman and I am sure you will agree). As far as the performances themselves, I will genuinely concede a certain level of subjectivity. Personally, I thought Hough was great and Cruise was absolutely amazing. Finally, in case this article was written as a joke in hopes of creating controversy (it is so ridiculous that this is completely possible), then all I have to say is "good job".

Loved Moonrise Kingdom, hope they get that one out there to more people. Hopefully this means Adam Sandler will stop getting to make these movies? Except the studios pretty much seem to cater to whatever he wants. Wasn't the budget for Jack and Jill like $70 mil?
