If it's a masterpiece it will be judged so by what's on screen. A script to Malick is generally a novelistic template and it's almost like he's adapting his own work.

All of his films are a process of discovery. Shooting all kinds of things and then weeding through them all and they crafting them in search of a higher truth. It's like neverending quest or like trying to figure out the meaning of life: there's no end to it and this is why Malick keeps at it over and over again with the same kinds of themes and moods?

How do you make true poetry? How do you illuminate true divinity?
You don't. You just keep trying to do so.
