Jason, it\’s not economically possible to make film just for archiving, so if you don\’t use it you loose it, completely.

I was at this event and it was very enlightening to here him speak on this very prevalent issue. What really resonated with me was the idea that film is not merely a technology, it is a medium. And how often has an artistic medium been replaced? An example Nolan gave was that even when acrylic painting came into being, it didn\’t replace oil painting (even if it was progressively "better" in terms of ease of use).

It\’s interesting to me that one side is arguing for more choices and more freedom while the other side is claiming to be progressive and forward movement but is arguing for less choice and less artistic freedom.

Both formats should be allowed to exist and the idea that digital must wipe film off the planet is totally arrogant and a loss for artistic expression.

Ugh. That\’s like saying we need combustions engines that rely on fossil fuels forever just because that\’s what we grew up with and that\’s what we know. Hogwash! Digital is the future and the future is now.
