Hey Washington. It's a bit comical to see you defend Gosling so vehemently by keep citing McQueen as comparison. McQueen was a very limited actor and McQueen himself knew it. Gosling has got more range than McQueen for sure.(i don't think he would appreciate your comparison) And i'm looking forward to see Gosling choosing interesting projects/roles in the future.
BUT
The reason so many thinking people thought Only God Forgives won't live up to the hype (judging from the clips so far)have more to do with the writing (yeah i've read the script and found it wanting), the tempo, pacing and the direction.

Drive was nothing new or groundbreaking in any sense. It was an okay movie with nice cinematography and soundtrack. The best acting in it wasn't Gosling but the Oscar Isaac character.

Anyone who thinks Drive is a pinnacle of great cinema or such a cool/badass film or whatever, clearly hasn't watched/studied that many films that came before it.

Gosling had always been a serious force to be reckoned with. Give The Believer, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine, and The Ides of March a shot as well. Americans love trashing talented people

People criticizing Ryan gosling for being expressionless have no Idea what they are talking about. First of all its not expressionless, its communicating without words and those who really listen can understand, secondly, He has only done those kinda roles in Drive, a little bit in place beyond the pines and may be this movie. watch, Ides of march,Crazy stupid love, Half nelson, Lars and the real girl, Fracture, all extremely different characters. any normal person can recognize this actors range. well some still wont and Im sorry for them.

Actually, Adam, that is not what actors are supposed to do. They should communicate emotions. Otherwise people with facial paralysis and/or aphasia would be the ideal interpreters.

Holy crap that first still- KST at the hotel- reminded me of Mavis in Young Adult checking in the hotel. Hahahaha. Totally weird. Also, am I the only one who is slightly getting sick of Gosling's whole lost-boy face/mute acting?
