I've actually seen To the Wonder so I found myself chuckling ("what if I choose the wrong thing?") because Sonic does have two key scenes in "To the Wonder" one with hope, one with jealousy.

The sonic one was not funny at all but the brad pitt narrated one got a chuckle here. The original ad was so hammy but sort of worked with these visuals lol

This is not the 'first Malick film to take place in a a contemporary setting.' Some of the scenes in Tree Of Life were set in modern day.
