Perhaps the most interesting thing you can say about “Deadpool,” at least in the post “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” superhero blockbuster universe we live in, is that somehow, an R-Rated movie about an unknown, obscure, potty-mouthed anti-hero will likely manage to make more in the U.S. than the gigantic Warner Bros. tentpole that features two iconic superheroes finally facing off. Yes, “Deadpool” is not only the highest grossing film in the entire “X-Men” series — a massively impressive feat considering those films are superstar ensemble movies —but it’s made $358 million domestically and counting. Meanwhile, ‘Batman v Superman’ has made $296.6 million in three weeks at home, but drop off is precipitous; the Zack Snyder film may stall out after $320 million or less.
Meaning: the relatively unknown Merc with the Mouth is going to outgross a Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman film in the U.S. which any way you slice it is a big win for 20th Century Fox and “Deadpool,” and a bit of a black eye for the DCU. In coincidental celebration, with the “Deadpool” Blu-ray and DVD release coming up on May 10th, Fox has released the first deleted scene from the movie.
Essentially, it’s a montage: Deadpool killing people, Deadpool training to kill people, Wade Wilson drinking away his sorrows in his disfigured state and Blind Al trying to put together IKEA furniture. Also, yes, there’s a shot of Deadpool jerking off while holding a stuffed unicorn doll and it’s kinda gross. “Deadpool” is in theaters now. Check out the deleted scene below.
