This trailer makes me want to see the film. Just wondering why when I click on Robert Pattinson\’s name, this story doesn\’t even show up in the list of articles he\’s in?

Someone needs to add this link to his name, it\’s relevant, ya know?

Bel Ami is not about romance — it is about sex = power during this period of power-brokering in Paris. It is about how power corrupts, which is still relevant today, maybe more so. It is also about how the growing narcissism of this character gradually consumes the minimal conscience he has at the beginning of the story. A fascinating character study and Pattinson seems to have a handle on it if people will just give him an honest chance. It\’s the old — \”don\’t hate him because he\’s beautiful\” or because women turn to goo at the sight or mention of him. Not his fault.

Interested because I know the book and think it does still have a lot of relevancy even today. But I agree that the trailer works overtime to sell it as a swoony, sex-filled epic. The story should have more edge to it than that. Hopefully, the film will even if the trailer doesn\’t.

Great cast, classic novel, gorgeous sets and costumes, intriguing protagonist and what looks like solid acting all the way around. It didn\’t look like a Harlequin romance at all. The director is an actor\’s director, and it shows even in a two minute trailer. Can\’t wait to see this, something for adults, not fanboys and hipsters.

I loved the trailer – including the music. I don\’t watch much TV nowadays – maybe that\’s why I hadn\’t heard any of it before. I thought it fitted perfectly. I can\’t fault Pattinson\’s voice or acting. From the self-conscious, embarrassed look on his face when his host rudely points out which cutlery to use, to his seething anger at the end, it looks like he did a brilliant job. I\’m really looking forward to seeing the film now, so the trailer did its job!

Bel Ami is not a romance novel lol; quite the opposite, in fact. The trailer is good. I\’m excited to see Robert Pattinson AND Colm Meaney together in this one. And Uma and Krristin Scott Thomas. Oh my.

\”the whole thing plays like an overcooked Harlequin romance writ large\” guess you never read bel-ami. i read it in college, and its not a romance novel. from the looks of the trailer is follows the book pretty well.
