How dare this "old codger" have an opinion that differs from the mainstream. Priest happens to be one of the finest living writers around, who\’s not afraid to deal with big ideas. His novels are truly mind-blowing. The Prestige is a decent adaptation but Nolan chose to ditch the incredible final third that brought an existential angst to the life of a supernatural being, created by science.

Christian: why are you questioning his comment about supporting rising talent? Do you think Nolan started work on the The Prestige after Batman Begins was finished because it was the next movie he made? Priest states that Nolan first approached him about making The Prestige when American Beauty had just received a ton of Oscar nominations, ie early 2000. Nolan had only made Following at this point.

Could not agree more. Nolan is easily the most overrated director working today. He\’s a OK director, but nowhere near as great as his fans would have you believe. There are very few things Nolan gets right in his scripts (e.g., exposition, dialogue, etc.) But even from a purely directorial standpoint the man can not shoot an coherent action sequence if his life depended on it.

Nolan\’s last superhero film came out two years ago. he\’s done with them. either the interview took place before the5-6 years ago or their use of tenses is off.

Bunch of idiots in the comment section. "This old guy is an idiot" or the classic: "Why…why is his opinion being shared??" Hate to break it to you Nolan fans, but he\’s right. Nolan\’s blockbusters (excluding Inception) was trash. The Prestige, based on this "old man\’s" novel, is excellent. Memento is awesome. TDK Trilogy? Not so much.

It cant be "wrong" in the realm of imaginative expression, to merge elements like psychological realism to super-hero movies or to ANY genre, imo. How can Batman be bashed as shallow when there\’s at least an attempt to add psych realism?

As for CN trying to be Kubrick or Hitchcock, let him be free creatively to merge their styles. I\’m standing by…email me some preview tickets.

Kind of funny that he thinks Nolan is trying to be Kubrick when he should be more like Hitchcock. If anything, I\’ve always found Nolan\’s style to resemble more closely to Hitchcock than anything Kubrick made. This guy can say whatever he wants, but I don\’t put much stock into his opinion.

This old guy is an idiot. Sure it\’s different for a superhero movie to actually dive into its characters and not rely on explosions and special effects. But it pays of so well. The way Nolan adds this psychological effect into the movies shows that he is an actual film maker. It also makes The Dark Knight Trilogy the three best superhero movies ever made. Sorry Avengers you sucked.
