Mr. T (may I call you "T"?) - I think any critique of art is valid since it\'s all subjective. That said I agree that self-importance alone is not a deal breaker. "The Sixth Sense" is self-important as all hell but it worked for me in a big way because it delivered the goods. "Unbreakable" didn\'t, for this viewer, which made the self-important tone stand out that much more.

Shyamalan’s problem is not as a director (he is highly skilled and knows how to use the camera to emote) but as a storyteller. He tends to write (and choose) half-baked ideas and can\'t seem to follow through a line of logic or, when warranted, a suspension of disbelief. That said, The Sixth Sense was a fantastic film and Unbreakable a truly underrated take on the humanity and mystery behind what having super powers might really be like. I would love for him to complete the trilogy (and then smarten up on his future selections).

self-importance is not a valid critique of any art work or story. boring, on the other hand, is and some of my friends also found Unbreakable boring. to each their own. i found the characters to be compelling, the directing a bit ostentatious but fitting for the story, and the acting superb. the scene with the kid and the gun was spectacular as was the two climaxes. i would definitely be down to watch a sequel to Unbreakable.

Please don\'t. "Unbreakable" was a) self-important and b) terribly boring. Not a good combination for a superhero film in my opinion.
