I have not seen a James Gray film before but The Immigrant does seem compelling. from this article I think the personal connection that motivated Gray to make the film along with Marion's specificity to the particular area of Germany and Poland and the opportunity that Gray had to shoot on Ellis Island makes for an intriguing character piece.
