The very real sense of the stakes – life and death – has to be carefully balanced with wit. When I read the book I thought it would make a great film but trying to find someone to portray Watney would be really difficult. He\’s intelligent, endlessly resourceful, funny, grounded, self-deprecating. Anyway, so far I\’m encouraged.
