Are you following Charlie Mortdecai aka @PartTimeRogue on Twitter? How clever and charming! The spy comedy is back with a vengeance in 2015 for better or worse and two of them are arriving in in the first two months of the year. You’ve got Matthew Vaughn’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” on February 13th and “Mortdecai” starring Johnny Depp as a bumbling, but dashing and dapper version of James Bond arrive just two weeks earlier in January (later in the year “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig will unveil “Spy” with Melissa McCarthy). Here’s the synopsis:
Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
Directed by writer/director David Koepp ("Premium Rush," "Secret Window") “Mortdecai” co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn and Aubrey Plaza. Depp’s last four movies have been flops ("The Rum Diary," "Dark Shadows," "The Lone Ranger" and "Transcendence"). Can “Mortdecai” break the losing streak? We’ll find out on January 23rd. Watch the new U.K. trailer (narrated by Stephen Fry even though he’s not in the movie), some new TV spot clips and check out some new photos below.
