Great director. Great reviews. Rosamund Pike? Okay, so they went with a relative unknown. Interesting choice. Personally, I thought Reese Witherspoon would have been an outstanding Amy. Ben Affleck? Meh. (Sidebar: Does anyone else agree with me that CASEY Affleck is the better actor? He just doesn\’t have that face or the capped teeth.) But again, great reviews. Did I mention my sense of anticipation? And the movie…sucks! You know it\’s bad when you start to reconsider your stance on Tyler Perry\’s sub-par career of peddling to the lowest common denominator. The whole tone of the film is OFF. The book is funny, and I mean laugh-out-loud funny. Of course, it\’s humor of the darkest variety, but funny nonetheless. Except for a couple of moments–and I do mean a couple–the cheeky, buoyant tone of the book is completely lost. Neil Patrick Harris was . . . wait for it . . . just wrong. And the climactic scene of Amy securing her "freedom" was outlandish. Reminded me of the celebration of gore that was Tim Burton\’s "Sweeney Todd." So over-the-top and, to be honest, stupid. Seems to me that critics could not look past a really good director to view the movie objectively and for what it is: a swing-and-a-miss.
