Sure, he was born in Munich to a German father and an Austrian mother but he is an Austrian citizen, not a German one, he was raised in Austria, went to school and to university there, lives there and works as a professor at the Filmakademie Wien. He also speaks German with an unmistakably Austrian accent, if that counts for anything.
