I\’m a little worried about self-parody. Some criticized To the Wonder that way unfairly, but the people under the sheet, crawling baby, waves and waves and waves. The biggest difference is the trailer looks like you\’ll have functional dialogue. I think that might scare me the most.

I think the modern and relevant subject matter keeps this far away from self-parody, personally. If this were another period piece, I\’d be way less excited for this.

I just can\’t handle the fish eye lensing or whatever it is. I know he did it s little in The Thin Red Line, but could you imagine that whole film like that. Malick has been a self parody since Tree of Life.

I am a big Malick supporter but have serious doubts about this one….if this all done in voiceover and contains hardly any dialogue this picture might be in trouble…a filmmaker as great as Malick should not fall into self parody and there shots in this trailer to come right from to the wonder so I\’m concerned but will remain hopefully until it plays at Berlin

self-parody is a silly criticism. scorsese does countless gangster movies and does receive this criticism, mainly b/c his films are entertaining. malick has created an aesthetic that recycles certain cinematographical techniques and is lambasted for it? plain silly.

Sure there is some signature Malick imagery and themes, but some elements appear very much new and refreshing. I\’m intrigued, as I would be regardless of this footage.

I know its more than likely not him, but it sounded like Will Arnett during the "I want to make you rich" lines.
