Mix horror, thriller, melodrama and Pedro Almodóvar and what do you get? Well, it’s hard to summarize into a single word or phrase, but the result is “The Skin I Live In,” the legendary director’s brave step into a bold new direction.

A new trailer has landed for the film and while it’s largely similar to those you have seen already (there seem to be a couple of new scenes) it does add some text to at least put the thematic elements of the story into some kind of context. Starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes and based on Thierry Jonquet‘s novel “Mygale,” the film is a revenge tale that tells the story of a plastic surgeon (Banderas) on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter. But that’s just a simple logline for a film that clearly goes into some weird, twisted places. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May where the response was mixed but still quite curious and intrigued, and we have to admit, no matter how well or poorly the film was received, we’d be tracking this down anyway. We’re pretty fascinated to see what Almodóvar has pulled together here.

The film will hit TIFF and NYFF before opening in limited release and platforming out on October 14th. Check out the new trailer and poster below. [Yahoo]
