The monolith, to me, always seemed like &#034;God&#034;, or at the least, a very superior intelligence that, at the films\&#039; end, transforms Dave into a new being, who is assigned to look over our planet. Or not! But the very best image/scene is near the very end, where Dave is very old, near death....he raises his arm as if to greet, then we see the Monolith is in the room with him. I would hope my moment of death is something like that.]]></description>
