Luthor’s broaching on philosophical/religous topics in BvS does not do enough to flesh out his motivations. The Joker’s philosophy of nihilism and anarchy in TDK seems coherent and he backs it up with clever lines and his deeds. A dark and gritty movie lacking humor at least has to be smart and mind-bending.
