Green Lantern is a perfect example. When you try to adapt something that goofball into something that can be taken seriously today, sometimes the strain of adding a \’grim & gritty\’ tone becomes all too visible. That movie (from what I could stand to watch of it) suffered from being neither fun or serious enough to work in either department.
