					<description><![CDATA[This new list is political in the best way possible. Fifty years of mass consensus had codified into fact. Kids who hadn&#x27;t seen a film older than The Shawshank Redemption (okay kidding, The Godfather) could recite that Kane was the Greatest Film Ever. At least in 2012 we&#x27;re getting a reminder that cinema is dynamic. 

I wouldn&#x27;t try to objectively claim Vertigo is better than Kane (although it has maybe the best understanding of the psychological impact of the lens of any film i&#x27;ve ever seen), but I LOVE how this shakes things up. Maybe for the next few months people will get a little more curious about films?

Also as someone who reps pretty hard for Vertigo, anyone complaining about &#034;all the shots of him just driving around following her&#034; should probably question why Hitchcock would choose to edit all of these scenes into his grand statement about obsession. Or go read Laura Mulvey&#x27;s essay on the male gaze.]]></description>
