Charles, I’ve been reading the Playlist for a long time. What I originally loved about this site was the thoughtful articles that provided insight into films. What you have been writing since you joined tends to be, more often than not, snarky takes on gossip. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I think you’re ruining the site.

I don’t begrudge you wanting to find salacious soundbites to write articles about. You have to pay your rent, I get it. But please, for your own sake, see if you can provide an article where you remove your own ‘outrage’ from the equation. You could easily have written this in a way that simply prevented the quotes and allowed us to make up our own minds about Vincent Gallo. At best, that’s having respect for your readers, or at worst it’s simply not trying to make the story about you. And I believe it will serve you better in the long run, before you develop a reputation as a writer who can’t write articles without hijacking them for his own personal soapbox.

Back in the day, the Playlist was reputable source of film journalism. I read it and shared stories daily. Now you all write highly-biased, opinion-driven reportage that has no depth or intelligence to it. No insight. You don’t even consider the complexity of people or situations anymore.
