The high critical acclaim the movie has is just a symbol of the snobbish attitude critiques had towards films that try too hard to be artsy and deep. The defendants of this movie claim that it needs to be seen a second time to be understood, but trust me, there are really no hidden meanings in the movie, just a lot of wasted screen time. While magnificent at some points the film just struggles to move forward and to find a voice of its own.

It's a confusing, mercurial and opaque movie and really quite resistant to criticism. It's so charged and brilliant in certain ways, and so frustrating and even aggravating in others. I am a huge PTA fan, love all of his movies except Punch Drunk Love really. This movie is over rated, pretentious and a waste of time. I would have fallen asleep if it wasn't for the good acting and Johnny Greenwood's score. This movie goes nowhere, it goes on and on, and in the end, nothing changes for each character. Don't waste your time on this plotless overrated pretentious garbage.
