I guess I'm the opposite type of Gilliam fan.

I absolutely adore Tideland,
thought brothers grimm was pandering hollywood tripe,
and agree that Parnassus was pretty much incomprehensible.

Although that there is still something between those to suit the both of us seems perfectly Gilliam-esque to me.

I read the whole of the script about 2 years ago and loved it, but I absolutely can't imagine Waltz and Swinton as main characters. The mood of the script was indescribable, however. I'd like to take a look at the outcome. Too bad I already know the ending. 😉

A B-. I would not have expected more. Gilliam came onto the project as a hack director. Anyone expecting something on the level of Brazil was being wishful thinking, to say the least.

This reviewer is a moron, screwing up film titles in his fuller doc review, claiming the armstrong lie is both razor sharp and choppy, and now this incoherent mess. WTF indiewire, why send the b team to Venice?

Tideland, "borderline unwatchable"? Taste is subjective and all that, but that's an extremely unfair verdict for such a powerful film. That's one of his best films, and the book it's based on is excellent as well. That movie deserves way more credit than it gets (which is basically zero).
