Cymbeline can be great, as anyone who's seen the Fiasco Theatre scaled down production will know, but this is a really good example of modernising Shakespeare leading to a train wreck. Some stories work only in the past and setting then in a modern context just destroys any possibility of suspending disbelief. Midsummer Night's dream also things like punishment by death for refusing to marry and so long as you set it in a world where that's believable it can work but set it in a modern context and it's just plain silly (ok faries are silly anyway but just go with the flow.)

Felt like the review was critiquing the play more than the film, which is definitely a very flawed incoherent tale. But would have liked to know more about the adaptation, the performances etc, discounting for the source material.
