Kubrick was right, the 119-minute cut is better, it's tighter and more focused, but it's nice to have the choice of which version to watch. And regarding the new extended cut of 'Once Upon A Time In America', the 229-minute version now widely available on DVD and Blu-Ray is Sergio Leone's preferred cut, it's the cut he publicly stated he was happy with, it's his family that have took it upon themselves to insert deleted footage back in, Leone was given the chance to re-insert deleted footage back into the film in the 1980's, but declined to do so, so if Leone himself was happy with the cut as it currently stands, then everyone should leave it alone…

Not that it matters, but we're all dorks and love minutiae like this. Thanks for the article. I'd completely forgotten there is a shorter, Kubrick-preferred cut of this film. I've gotten so used to the longer one over the years.
