Not only is it a great story, but Mesrine is also a part of French postwar history, as a member of the controversial French right-wing group, the OAS (Organisation de l'armée secrète) which mutinied against the Fifth Republic of Charles De Gaulle, with support from the USA, via the CIA.
Besides that, there are so many wonderful performances in this pair of films, by Vincent Cassel, Gerard Depardieu, Roy Dupuis. Mathieu Amalric and many others, it is certainly one pair of films not to be missed!
