He went against the wishes of George Lucas, when he insisted that he would only shoot "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" on film. Thank God, Christopher Nolan held out for shooting "The Dark Knight Rising" on 35mm as well. Hollywood is shooting itself in the foot, just to save some money. I became a motion picture projectionist in 1980. I trained on a 70mm print of "The Empire Strikes Back." Most of the 'traditional' 35mm 'film' projectionists, who devoted over thirty years to the industry, are now out of a job. If 35mm film-making and projection goes away, I will wait for the Blu-Ray or digital download. Popcorn, anyone?
