It really looks like Zhang Yimou and Ang Lee light.

Still, I do love me some good wireworking. John Woo needs to get back to guns, Chow Yun Fat, and super cheesy awesome slow motion action. But Red Cliff wasn pretty decent.

The mass battle scenes are the finest found outside of Middle Earth and/or Pandora. It's a wonderful action picture, war procedural.
