Parts of Spider-Man 3 are quite good, but most of it is a mess. Avi Arad & Sony are mostly to blame for the problems - they shoehorned Venom into the story against the wishes of Raimi, because they knew how popular the character was and thought it would pad the box office take. Turns out they were right, Venom being in there probably helped take the gross to nearly a billion dollars, but it also helped derail an already cluttered story. They should have saved Eddie Brock and had him be the solo villian of Spider-Man 4 - they could have done him justice that way. He could have been a fully fleshed out character like Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius in the first two films. SM3 should have been about Harry Osborn\'s struggle as the New Goblin (maybe renamed Hobgoblin because \'New Goblin\' was a lousy name) and finished up Franco\'s time in the series. Sandman should have been saved for later and been the solo villian of whichever movie he ended up in. The Spidey series shines when there\'s only one bad guy per movie, more than that and it gets messy.
